Video Poker Terms and Definitions
- Stake: The amount of money that you have bet in the game.
- Coins: Several video poker games allow you to bet more than one coin at a time (We recommend always betting the maximum number of coins available).
- Rank: It is the value of each card; there are thirteen ranks in a deck of cards.
- Pat: A Pat hand is one where you do not need to draw any new cards as you already have a good winning hand.
- Outside Straight: It is an open ended straight hand which can be completed at either of ends; e.g. 6, 7, 8, 9
- Inside Straight: This is a straight hand with a missing card inside; e.g. 5, 6, 8, 9 also A, 2, 3, 4 and A, K, Q, J are known as inside straight because they are at an extreme end.
- Zilch: It is a hand in which there are no cards worth holding.
- Payout table: It is the table which determines the amount won for each of the different types of wins (based on the number of coins bet).
- Perfect Play: Making every play that would result in the highest payback possible (from the initial cards given)
- Full Pay: It is known as the best payout scale for a game; e.g. 9/6 for Jacks or Better.
- Payoff: The amount of money or credit that a particular video poker game pays to the winning hand.
- Payout: It is the actual money that the machine pays to the player either as cash or receipt in casinos and in the online gambling concepts it is normally transferred to the player's bank account. It won't happen unless the player chooses to cash out.
- Payback (Also known as percentage payout or Expected Value): The expected return of the game in long-term play. For example a 98% payback would mean that for every £100 bet on this game the player would win £98 on average and the casino would make £2. This amount is affected by how well you play (top players can increase their payback).
