Video poker found its way to casinos in the late 1970's and gradually became one of the most popular gambling games both in casinos and Internet gambling.
In video poker the player is playing against the machine rather than other people, but the goals are still the same. Their is an element of skill involved as the player has the opportunity to
make decisions and control the results, unlike in slot machines where the random number generator takes the whole control of the game and so it is totally down to luck.
Each type of video poker game has its own pay-table and rules. Some of them have extra features like wild cards or it doubles the winning hand if you get the
double symbol in your hand. There is a wide range of video poker games, some of them have been initiated from particular parts of the United
States like Louisiana Double, hence, has these have the same name as the region.
In order to be a good video poker player you need to have sufficient
playing skills and mathematical knowledge, combined with a bit of good luck!
The differences between Video Poker and Poker:
Although poker and video poker have many common terminologies and rules, they are fundamentally different. In poker the player is competing against other players and he/she can loose even with a
strong hand as someone else might have a better hand or even a player with a poor hand can win the money in the pot by just bluffing! So the opponents and bluffing play a big role in your winning or loosing rather which means the cards you have are less important.
But in Video poker the value of your hand is the only thing that matters, the player is competing against the dealer in the machine, which is basically the random number generator; the game depends on the probabilities
and your knowledge of the play, no bluffing this time! If you get a strong hand you will win the amount stipulated by the pay-table, there's no trickery, as you don't have any human opponents to fool you into folding when you have a high hand.
